Vague New Trailer From SNK Is Teasing the Return of Wolfgang Krauser
Or is it?

Continuing the trend of teasing things with somewhat vague videos, SNK has just uploaded a new video that could have a few different implications.

For starters, if you're one of many people who doesn't know much about the lore of SNK fighters, it's important to know that until now (potentially) Krauser was dead, or at the very least "missing in action."

In Fatal Fury 2, he held his own King of Fighters tournament with the intention of fighting the man who managed to beat Geese Howard, but despite considering himself to be the peak of human potential, he was still beaten by Terry Bogard.

The actual in-game ending is very mild, with each of the playable characters simply standing over Krauser's body. The official guidebook paints a far darker picture, where following his defeat, Krauser takes his own life.

This ending got properly expanded in the anime OVA that came out in 1993 – Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle. There, you see the final fight play out in full glory, with Terry whittling down Krauser and breaking off pieces of his armor until Krauser is forced to admit defeat, in spite of being satisfied with the battle.

Out of his twisted sense of honor, we see Krauser decide to take his own life and leap through the broken wall of his castle, plummeting down into the sea from a height that by all means should be fatal.

The new video you can find below is an abridged but still rather faithful remake of that final scene, except for one detail at the end.

The henchman watching Krauser fall was entirely silent in the OVA, but in this video, he states that there's a high chance Krauser survived.

The most obvious implication here is that he will be coming back, either as a separate free boss character (as SNK have done in the past, like with Rugal in KoF XV), or as part of the Season Pass 2, now that the first season of characters concluded with the release of Mr. Big.

While it's fun to entertain other options, this is by far the most likely one, since the company made it clear that they want City of the Wolves to be an ultimate Fatal Fury game and feature all the characters from the iconic series.

There's room for other interpretations, like SNK potentially releasing a new animated feature, which they haven't really done since The King of Fighters: Destiny in 2017. An even less likely option is that it's related to another video where they teased Robert from Art of Fighting, which could be another hint for Season 2, or an unrelated build up to the new Art of Fighting game they are currently working on.

We'll likely know the answer soon enough, since the Season 2 announcement should be right around the corner.
