Former Evolution Championship Series winner and Street Fighter legend Hajime Taniguchi, otherwise known as Tokido, has shared his thoughts on the current state of Ken in Street Fighter 6, jokingly suggesting that the character should now be considered bottom tier.
The comment was partly tongue-in-cheek, but it also highlighted how perceptions around the character have changed in the current season. In the lead-up to Capcom Cup, pro player Phenom went around asking several competitors for their opinions on different characters in the game.
When Tokido was asked about both Ken Masters and Cammy White, he suggested that the pair are relatively weak this season. That assessment stands in contrast to Ken’s reputation in earlier seasons of the game, where the character was widely considered one of the strongest picks in the roster.
Late entry into Capcom Cup
Tokido was not originally scheduled to compete at this year’s Capcom Cup. However, when Punk had to withdraw from the tournament due to passport issues, Tokido was called up as the next eligible player on the global leaderboard.
The Japanese veteran will be hoping to improve on his performance from the previous year, where he reached the Top 8 before being eliminated by Amjad Al-Shalabi.
Capcom Cup begins this week
The latest edition of the Capcom Cup is set to begin on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, where Tokido will once again look to prove that experience still counts at the highest level of competitive Street Fighter.
