In a region as stacked as Japan, it’s hard to pick a favorite before any event starts. Still, considering the year he had, and his status as the season leader, Gen was touted as probably the likeliest competitor to win it all. However, he didn’t manage to make it out of the pools. The story of the day was Chikurin’s run through the losers bracket. After struggling in the pools and making through by the skin of his teeth, he then managed to best Rangchu and Double, before facing AO in the grand final. There, he forced a bracket reset, and then won a difficult back and forth in 5 games. With this win, Chikurin became the Tekken Online Challenge 2021 – Japan: Regional Champion.
The final Top 8 looks like this:
1. Chikurin
2. AO
3. Double
4. Rangchu
5. Gen
5. Nobi
7. Pinya
7. Haikaioh
Tekken Online Challenge 2021 will be back next year with the Korean and North American events.
