After several months of work and planning, the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. is finally complete. Valued at $110 billion and with a name change to Skydance, this represents one of the largest media deals in history.
From an entertainment standpoint, it’s huge, but an oft-overlooked aspect of the merger is what it means for the FGC. Well, with Paramount Games Studio and Warner Bros. Games now under the same roof, it means Mortal Kombat and Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game are now part of the same company.
Paramount Games Studio was formed earlier this year by bringing together Paramount and Skydance’s gaming operations, with Tony Driscoll serving as its president. It is currently unclear what the roadmap will look like for the combined gaming operations following the Warner Bros. acquisition.
But, it does open the door to collaboration and, with a game like Mortal Kombat, it is easy to see the possibility of more guest characters when the next iteration of the game is released.
For now, the focus might be on a DC game, as has been heavily speculated in recent times, but until an announcement is made, we’ll have to wait and see.
