Tekken has a few shocking truths about its characters that are both worrying and sad

Tekken is not a game without tragedy or darkness, but if you were to categorize the game, you are more likely to call it an action movie than a thriller or horror. That said, there are some pretty messed up stuff contained in the game. The fighter which came out in the early 1990s and was one of the first 3D fighters has blazed the trail and is a mightily successful game in its own right. In that time, a lot of storylines have been explored and a lot of characters introduced some of whom have some pretty sinister backstories.

So, here are four disturbing facts about Tekken

#1

Fahkumram can probably never return to his family again

Fahkumram is a character that was introduced in Tekken 7 and might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he does have an interesting backstory. Fahkumram is a hulking menace that stands at almost 7 feet with a terrifying build. However, he does come across as a very gentle soul. Struck by lightning at the age of 12, he became a Muay Thai champion when he was 18. He got married and has a daughter, but by the age of 24, he was abducted by the military of his country and forced to do their bidding if he was ever going to see his family again. With the advent of Tekken 7, Fahkumram is forced to fight in the tournament and depending on his performance, he might be allowed to see his wife and daughter. However, the King of Iron Fist tournament 7 was canceled so there is no winner which might not please Fahkumram’s abductors. If he returns in Tekken 8, it’ll mean he is being threatened again which could very well mean they will keep dangling his family before him as bait and never let them go.

Now, even if he is  able to see them again, it is very possible that they will never be the same again. The thing is, by the time Fahkumram was abducted, he was a tender family man and proud warrior who played by the rules and was honorable. If he returns to his family, he’ll be returning as a killer, and someone who has done some pretty messed up stuff. Though not his fault, it might be impossible for he and his family to find any semblance of normalcy.

#2

The Tragedy of Jinpachi Mishima

Jinpachi Mishima is the true patriarch of the Mishima family and if you aren’t familiar with the story of Tekken, you might simply know him as the villain of Tekken 5. Jinpachi started the Mishima Zaibatsu, and was the one to train his son, Heihachi and Kazumi in the Mishima arts. He was also the one who organized the 5th King of Iron Fist tournament

However, the reality of Jinpachi’s life is pretty tragic and a tad disturbing. When he turned a new leaf to leave behind the militant direction his company was heading, he was ousted by his own son and when he tried to stop Heihachi, he was defeated and imprisoned beneath the Mishima family temple, Hon-Maru. Not only that, but he died of hunger after literally being forgotten there. Just think of that for a moment, a man, who was simply trying to do good, was betrayed by his flesh and blood, and left to rot. So, he was alone, kept alive for quite a while, and then dies.

But, that’s not all, instead of being left in death, he is then possessed by a demon and made to do all sorts of evil things. Now, if he was unaware of his actions, that might have been a kinder fate, but his ending in Tekken 5 shows that he was very aware of what he was doing, but unable to stop it. So, in life, he was betrayed and in death was used for evil.

He eventually died after Jin mercifully ended him, but his story is heartbreaking and a disturbing reminder of the evil of ambition, and the pain of betrayal.

#3

True Ogre eats you

True Ogre is the final form of the Ancient Ogre character who was introduced in Tekken 3. While Ancient Ogre is an intelligent being who can speak and can engage characters fairly normally, True Ogre is feral and without the niceties of the normal Ogre.

In Tekken Tag Tournament, something truly worrying happens. If you face Ogre in the arcade mode and you lose to him, you will encounter a pretty disturbing continue screen. As the seconds count down, you will get a first person view of Ogre hovering over your character in a menacing way and then as it gets ever closer to zero, the camera angle changes and now Ogre will be backing the camera.

The character’s body will be gone, but you’ll hear clear eating noises coming from Ogre. Now, you might want to say maybe Ogre didn’t get any lunch that day and wanted to briefly munch on an apple, but the most likely interpretation is chilling…Ogre is eating your body. You don’t get to see it thankfully, but somehow that makes it even more unsettling. There’s also the fact that you’re just being eaten, no screams or anything which indicates that you’re either just dead, or too terrified to really say anything.

#4

Bryan is a Masochist

Okay, so we know all about Bryan Fury. The zombie cyborg former cop is one of the game’s antagonists. He is one of those characters that is just wild and on his own, kinda like Akuma in the Street Fighter games.

So, the thing with Bryan is this— he might be a masochist……….. Scratch that, he’s definitely a masochist. This is because he has this laugh that he does when he gets hit. So, when Bryan gets hit in the junk by women, or trampled, he has that laugh which is a little unnerving considering he is an undead cyborg machine man. It does track with his personality as he has been shown not to care about anything or anyone other than himself. He was a crooked cop while alive and it is no stretch of the imagination to believe that he would be into a few kinky things.

Beyond that, he is also really savage. One of his win animations starting from Tekken 4 showed him pummeling his victims even after winning and this suggests he would happily kill them right there and then. Bryan is all about equal kick ass though and he pummels women as savagely as men, but the malice in his beatdowns is usually a little worrying.
