The 8th week of Street Fighter League USA threw up some riveting matches with the following teams:

  • Red Rooster vs. Bandits
  • Fighting Spirit vs. FlyQuest
  • Shopify Rebellion vs. Cloud9

Red Rooster have absolutely no hopes of making the playoffs and were not in the greatest shape against Bandits who defeated them 40-0. But, Uriel Velorio, who has probably been RR's most impressive player took MenaRD to the brink in the anchor match forcing the Capcom Cup champ to switch from Akuma to Blanka and only narrowly losing 3-2. Uriel dropped a couple of expensive combos and Mena had the experience and presence of mind to capitalize and get the win.

The final match of the day saw a Cloud9 who have fallen from the top and are fighting hard to ensure they stay in touch with the top positions, facing off against Shopify Rebellion who are embroiled in a battle of their own in hopes of staying within touching distance of Bandits who currently occupy the last playoff spot. Unfortunately, Bandits took a 40 point leap while Shopify did their best but couldn't defeat C9. While HotDog29 was able to take down team captain JB, Lexx and the incredibly clutch Booce were on hand to deliver 30 points to their team.

The middle match was also the most anticipated with top of the table Fighting Spirit squaring off against the Punk-led FlyQuest. It felt like a battle of ideals. On the one hand, FlyQuest have almost exclusively relied on Punk in the anchor spot to get all the necessary points, with ChrisCCH, Shine, and Psycho content to play supporting roles in the team, and on the other hand, Fighting Spirit are a lot more collaborative with DCQ being the obvious star, but the other team mates playing more prominent roles.

ChrisCCH got FlyQuest off to a good start defeating NL, before Oil King got the points back against Shine. This left DCQ, one of the strongest players in Asia, against an unstoppable Punk who has only lost once to MenaRD all season. Punk has been impossible to contain with his Cammy while DCQ has started to lean into his JP more. He attempted to go with JP, but Punk was too strong and went into a 2-0 lead. DCQ made the switch to Bison and was immediately improved. He changed the pace of the game and his plan, getting into Punk's face more and was quite successful. He pulled it back to 2-2 giving Punk some pause for thought. But, the clutch player that he is, Punk was more than ready and was able to win the last match to make it 3-2 and give FlyQuest the points.
