Zangief's actor hopes that the character will get his time to shine, but the box office seems to suggest otherwise.
The recent global release of the Street Fighter movie has confirmed the concerns that it's going to be just another garbled and insincere attempt to bring fighting games to the silver screen while still trying to appeal to the general audience.
With the disastrous opening, it's unlikely that the movie will recoup its budget, and by extension, we're unlikely to see a sequel.
However, that's clearly not what Capcom and the movie's director were banking on, as it ends with obvious sequel bait, and according to a comment from Zangief's actor, every actor signed an agreement for 3 movies in total.
This reply was prompted by a short about the movie "ruining" Zangief by not giving a scene where he'd express his patriotism, to which Olivier Richters, also known as The Dutch Giant, responded by saying:
Zangief here. When they asked me to play Zangief it was all very clear. There was one goal: show a glympse of Zangief and his power, so we all want more. All actors, including me signed for 3 movies. If a sequel is made, Zangief will shine was the promise. Apart from that, you can't expect from a 2 hour movie with so many characters for everyone to shine in the first part. But anyways, thanks for wanting to see more of Zangief :)!
