Three years to reach a milestone that took Street Fighter V seven, with a movie and Tifa still to come
Capcom has announced that Street Fighter 6 has reached a landmark seven million copies sold. The game, which launched in June 2023, has been a runaway success, and the numbers leave no room for doubt.
SF6 has been particularly popular in Japan, where it has become something of a cultural phenomenon. With seven million copies now sold, it has comfortably outstripped Street Fighter V's sales pace. The latter reached the seven million mark in 2022, seven years after its release. SF6 has done it in three. With the Street Fighter movie arriving later this year and Final Fantasy's Tifa joining the roster in 2027, those figures are only expected to climb further.
Street Fighter 6 Proves a Casual Audience Can Boost a Game
SF6 has sometimes been labelled a casual game, owing to the many features added to make it more accessible to a wider audience. For some, that was viewed as a negative. The sales numbers suggest otherwise.
The competitive environment has added significantly to the game's broader appeal. It produced the largest fighting game tournament ever held at Evo Japan, where more than 7,000 players entered and a Guinness World Record was officially awarded.
Street Fighter V ran for approximately eight years. If SF6 sustains a similar lifespan, it would be difficult to bet against it finishing as the most successful Street Fighter title ever released.
