Runa Momoi, better known as Betty, is a Japanese gamer and streamer with G-Star Gaming, who has just defeated legendary Japanese caster, Aru, in the very popular Oji Hunt.
Betty won 6-0, 6-1, to take out her 6th Oji and continue her reign of terror against the older Japanese FGC.
Oji Hunt is a production put together by G-Star Gaming where their players, most notably Betty, take on older members of the FGC or retired veterans of the scene in a long set. The rules typically are that the winner must take two sets and must win the final set by more than one game. This means, the winner can win 6-5 in one set, but the next set would need to end in a 7-5 or any other scoreline of more than one.
Betty has so far taken down Ohsu Akira, Kokujin, Handsome Orisaka, Isshi Pro, Soushihan Keisuke, and now Aru.
The match was heavily promoted, and there was a stream that had over 200,000 views on YouTube.
Betty has said that she would like to take on Justin Wong, and there is hope that something can happen there. Betty is not a pro player yet, and aims to become one and partake in Street Fighter League Japan.
Her victim this time, Aru, was a good sport about his defeat, putting out a post on X where he admitted his failings.
"At the launch party, many people were concerned about the results of Uncle HUNT, but he feels relieved so there is no need for them to worry.
"I pushed myself to the limits of what I could do at the time, and it wasn't enough. It's healthy and inevitable that those who make sacrifices and continue to do their best will be strong, so I feel a greater sense of satisfaction.
"When it was over, I thought, "I wish I could have played more." That's how much I enjoyed the match, rather than the victory.
"I was also happy to see the young people who shared this time with me and felt the bitterness as if it were their own. I will be rewarded if they can bring some of that bitterness with them when they face Betty-chan on the big stage someday.
"This challenge was from many different angles, but it was fulfilling, and I encountered many new people. It's also good that I was able to put it into practice.
"Thank you to everyone who supported me. Although the result was unfortunate, I will continue to enjoy fighting games, so please support me again if you have the chance.
"For now, I'll take a little break."
Betty's next victim is unknown, but the idea is that once Betty loses twice, the event will end. So fans are cheering her on so that the event continues. It remains to be seen how much longer she keeps going and if the Oji Hunt will feature more active veterans like Daigo, Itabashi Zangief, and Fuudo.
