Out of nowhere, X user Faabi posted a bombshell of an announcement that they are just one bug away from hitting 1.0 version for the Street Fighter 4 rollback project.
This is obviously something that people have been waiting for, but as usual, in the era of vibecoded game recomps and barely functional apps, some people were right to be skeptical.
Faabi himself later made the post clarifying that he does use AI, but ties to reassure people that the project isn't "vibecoded" because he's a software engineer. Also specifying that this project uses Anthony Danducci's process-inspection and modification tool for Street Fighter 6 as the basis.
However, actions speak louder than words in this case. While some will have justified concerns over AI being used at all, I think none of us are under the illusion that FGC will ignore this project over AI if it does provide them with perfectly functional Street Fighter 4 netcode.
Currently it's available only in a very limited capacity and will fall back on sever relay if things break, but depending how things go, we might one day see actual proper rollback for SF4.
