Yesterday, digital distribution service and storefront Steam announced several new hardware products set for release in the near future: the Steam Frame, Steam Controller, and Steam Machine.
Of the three, the most exciting reveal is the Steam Machine, which has already sparked discussions about its potential impact on the fighting game tournament scene. With a sleek design, portable form factor, and powerful specifications, many are wondering whether it could eventually become the new standard platform for competitive play.
According to early information shared with the public, the Steam Machine will boast six times the power of the Steam Deck, support 4K 60 FPS with FSR, and come in 512GB or 2TB models. It will feature an AMD Zen 4 CPU, RDNA3 GPU with 28 compute units, 16GB of RAM, and allow for optional Windows installation. Shipping is expected to begin in early 2026.
Excitement within the fighting game community (FGC) is already growing. Tournament organizer and CEO founder Alex Jebailey commented,
"Nobody jump the gun yet please, but I’m excited to see the costs and potential the Steam Machine hardware has for tournaments running on a straight-to-gaming PC setup with Steam OS. Especially if this is six times more powerful than the current Steam Deck."
