Japanese psychological horror visual novel This Game Is Not Real is no longer launching on Steam.
Developer Viv said the game failed Steam’s platform review and had its store page removed before release. The title had gathered around 24,000 wishlists before the decision.
This Game Is Not Real was planned for a Q2 2026 Steam release. The visual novel follows two male game creators and presents the player as the game one of them is developing.
The Steam release is canceled, but the game is still planned for Japanese platforms DLsite and BOOTH later this month. The first release will support Japanese, with the developer open to additional language support or fan translation patches later.
The decision adds another storefront issue for adult visual novels on Steam, where developers can lose access to a large wishlist base late in the release process.
