Fan favorites are back in action.
The latest State of Play from Sony didn't deliver all that much in terms of fighting game news, but we still got one rather juicy announcement from Arc System Works and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
It seems like they were saving some of the best for last, as the newest "Knights of Doom" team shows off 3 new characters, and it's banger after banger after banger.
We also get another glimpse of the game's story. The Promoter comes back for this trailer and seemingly presents a tournament hosted by Champion of the Universe. Fairly classic story framing for fighting games, but given the length of story mode and direct involvement of Marvel, we might be getting a lot more meat to the storytelling in this game.
Sadly, these team trailers never offer a great look at individual characters, but there's still enough to figure out the distinct direction of each character:
- Magneto shows mastery over projectiles with a focus on controlling the screen, and putting down pressure.
- Green Goblin seems like an inversion of Magneto in this this regard, with projectiles that make for some rather tricky setups.
- Carnage gets more personal than either of the two, and appears to be a very aggressive character, but his tendrils and tentacles allow for efficient offense at mid and long range.
During the trailer, people also spotted a cameo from She-Hulk in the background, but while cool, it's worth remembering that it doesn't indicate if she will or won't appear in the game.
That aside, the game's roster is shaping up to be really damn strong, with a mix of the most iconic Marvel characters and a few oddball, eclectic picks for people who want their weirdos and deep cuts.
