Things are rough right now for SoulCalibur fans.
A few days ago, a new SoulCalibur fan game released on Itch. Soul Calibur - Swords of Destiny presents itself as an attempt to recreate the traditional SoulCalibur gameplay but in 2D.
It's a fairly interesting premise for a free fan game, but people who are clued in about existing SoulCalibur games and the MUGEN community have immediately noticed that something was off about this.
The entire game is assembled from countless assets that were made by other people. From character sprites and move sets to even menus.
As one of the comments on the Itch page points out, if you check out the Mugen Archive for SoulCalibur, you will find basically everything that was used in Sword of Destiny.
While the game is free, so it's not like they are receiving profit from stolen assets, it's still extremely frowned upon to make a game like this without proper credits and attributions to people who actually made the content for it, even if some of it was originally ripped from SoulCalibur Mobile.
MUGEN creatives are often more than happy to collaborate and help those who want to make a fighting game, it really shouldn't be too hard to reach out and ask for their permission, and then crediting them for their attributions.
