SNK Releases KoF XIII System Introduction
Now's the time if you want to play some XIII.

King of Fighters XIII Global Match recently came out on Switch and PS4. Much like previous KoF 98 and 2002 re-releases, Global Match finally brings the game up to the modern standards, with new lobbies and rollback netcode.

However, KoF XIII is not an easy game to get into. Even though it's not the impossibly hard combo simulator that some YouTube videos might have you believe, you will need some pointers to start playing without unnecessary pain and chore.

The new video from SNK solves this exceptionally well by going over some of the most key aspects of KoF gameplay and XIII specifically, with notes that often reference KoF XV, to provide a perspective for newer players.

The first part of the video goes over the very important Hyper Drive and Drive Cancel mechanics. They are quite different from other KoF games and have a drastic impact on gameplay, as you will now need to manage your HD gauge in order to perform some of the special and super cancels.

The section after it also elaborate on how these mechanics feed into the rest of the game, with things like Jumping Blowback combos, Drive Cancel punishes, and meter management, which is such a crucial part of the game.

While this will not tell you everything there is to know about KoF (check out Dandy J's KoF Zone on YouTube), it does a great job of introducing you to key concepts that are unique to XIII.
