Smash.gg Reveals the Rebranding to Start.gg
The invaluable resource for organizing tournaments is looking fresh, yet still familiar

Smash.gg

If you ever organized, participated in, or spectated a fighting game tournament, you're likely familiar with Smash.gg, an invaluable platform for running various competitive gaming events. Earlier this month, they announced that the website would be getting a bit of a makeover, receiving a new name and look.

With the most recent update to their blog, the details are finally here.

Here's a summary of everything you need to know:

New Name

Smash.gg will now be known as Start.gg, a short and simple name, just like before.

New Features

Start.gg will be significantly improving already existing search functions to make it easier to find what you're looking for, including any tournaments that might be happening close to you.

On top of that, they will provide users with aggregated news, livestreams, and VODs from a magnitude of different sources so that users can find whatever gaming-related content they might desire. To help them with that, Start.gg will be introducing the algorithm that will try to understand your interests and suggest content for games you care about.

Launch League

To celebrate this makeover, Start.gg is cooperating with Panda, CEO, Combo Breaker, VoiD, Sajam, Xbox Game Pass, and others to run some tournaments for fighting games and various Microsoft gaming titles. More details on that can be found here.

Sidenotes

  • Start.gg will remain completely free to use. The website will start showing some ads to gain revenue, but there won't be any special charges, NFTs, or premium plans.
  • Being acquired by Microsoft will not change the trajectory or purpose of the website. Instead, it creates new opportunities with access to Microsoft's technologies, as well as improvements to privacy, security, and accessibility.
  • The changes will take effect on May 16th.
