Capcom's latest trailer reveals a substantial set of new features arriving on the 28th of May alongside the game's final season 3 character
Street Fighter 6 has released a trailer featuring new modes that will make their way into the game alongside the latest character, Ingrid.
Ingrid is the final character for the game's third season and the herald for the fourth. A balance patch is expected to accompany her arrival, though this has not been confirmed by Capcom.
What Are SF6's New Game Modes?
The main attraction in the trailer is a set of new game modes specifically targeting the game's avatar system, a feature that sits at the heart of SF6. Upon starting the game, players are invited to create a custom avatar through which they experience everything the game has to offer. This avatar is used in the World Tour campaign and serves as the player's character across the game's many lobbies.
The new updates will introduce an arcade mode for avatars and random avatar matches. In the arcade mode, players can use their avatar to fight against characters from the game, including World Tour mentors, with rewards including new colors for existing characters and even outfit two unlocks for masters.
The random avatar battles also flatten the playing field, meaning participants begin on even ground regardless of their level or accumulated gear.
There also appear to be boss battles. The trailer featured a dark version of Ingrid acting as a final opponent, and from the looks of it she has access to super moves not available to the regular playable character. It is a detail that suggests Capcom has put considerable thought into making these modes feel distinct rather than simply repackaging existing content.
Players will also gain access to classic endings for select characters from older Street Fighter titles. For long-time fans of the series, the chance to revisit those story moments within SF6 is a welcome piece of nostalgia that adds depth to the update.
Who Is SF6 Really Made For?
All of this has gotten people wondering whether the focus on avatar content explains why regular characters have not been receiving cosmetic updates on a more regular basis. YouTuber Maximilian Dood addressed this directly in a post on X.
"The ever[lasting] question of 'where's the costumes?' has been answered," he said. "The exuberant amount of players populating SF6 daily isn't just Ranked/Player match enthusiasts. It's people playing with their avatars/freaks, against other avatar/freaks. And now, they get even more."
It is a perspective worth considering. The overwhelming majority of SF6's success may well be owed to its casual audience, with the competitive environment serving as a kind of advertisement for the more relaxed side of the game. If that is the case, it makes sense that Capcom would prioritise content that speaks to that majority. The hope among competitive players and cosmetic enthusiasts is that this focus does not come at the expense of updates for the main roster entirely, and that both sides of the player base continue to be catered to as the fourth season gets underway.
The new updates go live on the 28th of May 2026, alongside the release of Ingrid.
