The name Virtua Fighter Crossroads has floated around before, most notably when the new footage leaked to the public, but now it's all but confirmed thanks to a new trademark that SEGA registered on Chizai-Watch.

Dropping the numbered titles after a significant gap in releases is not that rare and seems fairly understandable in this case, since SEGA wants to signal that it's a new game that anyone can try and get into without worrying about the legacy of five numbered entries that preceded it.

That said, Crossroads is perhaps not the most exciting noun to tack onto the series title. Despite dropping the aforementioned legacy, Crossroads likely means just about nothing to anyone but the series fans who understand the full weight of expectations that the new game needs to live up to.
