Seattle Seahawks Reference Evo Moment 37 in Viral NFL Post
Justin Wong will never escape the viral moment

It seems that no matter what Justin Wong does, or where he goes, he can never truly escape the shadow of Evo Moment 37.

The latest place this legendary FGC meme has resurfaced is surprisingly within the NFL, after the Seattle Seahawks shared an image referencing the iconic Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike moment to promote their matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the illustration, the Seahawks were represented by Ken, while the Rams were depicted as Chun-Li. Given that Chun-Li ultimately lost that historic round at Evo 2004, the imagery made it clear how confidently Seattle viewed the matchup before kickoff.

That confidence proved well placed. The Seahawks went on to secure a 31–27 victory, prompting their social media team to double down with a follow-up post. This time, the illustration showed their Ken character parrying everything the Rams threw at them, a direct nod to Daigo Umehara’s legendary defensive sequence that defined Evo Moment 37.

Unsurprisingly, the post sent ripples through the fighting game community, with fans quickly tagging Justin Wong across social media. Wong himself joined in on the fun, responding with a tongue-in-cheek comment hoping the Seahawks would lose—a reaction entirely in keeping with his long-running relationship with the meme.

Beyond the humor, the interaction once again highlights the lasting cultural impact of Evo Moment 37 and how a single esports clip can transcend its original scene to influence mainstream sports and pop culture decades later. For many fans, Evo Moment 37 represents the day the FGC truly entered the global consciousness. While competitive fighting games existed long before 2004, it was this moment that introduced the wider world to the drama, skill, and spectacle the genre could offer.

Even today, countless players cite Evo Moment 37 as the clip that inspired them to pick up fighting games for the first time.

Although Justin Wong has largely stepped away from serious competition in favor of a highly successful content creation and commentary career, the other half of that legendary moment, Daigo Umehara, continues to compete at the highest level. Daigo is currently preparing for the Street Fighter League Japan Grand Finals, where his team REJECT will face off against Crazy Raccoon.

With stakes high and eyes watching, perhaps another viral moment is waiting to be born.
