Rivals of Aether 2 Patch 1.6.1 Adds One of the Coolest QoL Features
Also some balance changes and new cosmetics.

Rivals of Aether II just received Patch 1.6.1 which brings in a lot of new cosmetics, balance changes, fixes, and QoL features. While Loxodont, Maypul, and Ranno are getting new cosmetics, Kragg fans are the winners on cosmetic front with a whole new skin.

The other major piece of cosmetics is the new skin for Metal Refinery stage, which transforms it into an Armada Flagship, taking you above the skies.

Now, onto actual changes.

Audio Changes

Slade

  • Slade's Tether Grab/ZAir no longer uses Galvan's sound-effects and has a new custom one instead.

  • Up Special's SFX timing has been fixed.

  • Slade's coin pickup sound volume has been raised slightly

  • New sounds have been added whenever Slade gets enough coins to buy a new item using his Down Special chest. Every threshold has it's specific sound. For the time being there are no sounds for Neutral Special item thresholds but we'll be evaluating over time the possibility of also adding these.

Items

  • A new sound has been added to the Ice Spike hit when it hits the ground.

  • Crystal Core now play sounds correctly when the hit player gets out of crystallize.

Gameplay Updates

  • New Advanced Control Option: Airdodge Rounding Angle

    • In previous patches, the angle at which airdodges round to cardinal directions has changed back and forth between 12 and 20 degrees, with many people preferring one over the other. Now we're adding it as a setting so that both camps can have it their way. Higher values will make it easier to get perfectly horizontal wavedashes/wavelands, while lower values will allow for more precise control of your wavedash/waveland distance.

  • Bug fix: Item throw states will now go into the Land state if they land after their IASA frame

    • Previously, characters would stay in the item throw state when landing and retain their aerial actionability, including the ability to airdodge.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented airdodge friction from being applied on the frame where the airdodge sound effect played.

  • Fixed a bug with loading a state while a character was grabbing the ledge of a moving platform.

  • Fixed back button on the top bar on the CSS and StageSelect getting stuck in the hovered state

Runback

  • New QoL feature! In lobbies or local with tourney mode off, any player can press TriggerLeft + TriggerRight + Jump after the game has ended, but before moving to Results, to trigger a Runback! This restarts the match on the current stage with the current characters.

  • Dash Attack's last active frame no longer reaches as far downward

    • With this change, it no longer consistently hits players on the ledge.

  • Up Special multihits hitstun multiplier: x0.75 > x0.5

    • Even after the last hitstun reduction, trading with this move (especially the tip hitbox) would leave the opponent in an awful spot if they DId the move behind Clairen.

  • Airdodge Speed: 21.25 > 23.5

  • Airdodge Friction: 1.4 > 1.75

    • After the ground friction nerf, her grounded movement was a bit too limited, especially when wavedashing. These changes make her wavedash go a bit farther without changing her airdodge distance much.

  • Fixed a bug that could cause opponents to get frozen in place if they were hit by another hitbox right before grounded Down Special slammed them into the ground.

  • Coins that land on Slade's open treasure chest will now be collected automatically.

    • Note: It will not collect enemy Slade coins, even after the coins can be picked up by other Rivals.

  • Dropping a treasure chest on an opponent with Down Special will now spawn coins like a normal attack.

    • The initial hit of Down Special already spawned coins on hit, so now it will do so even after he releases the chest.

  • Bug fix: Coins spawned by the golden fish will now have the same launch speed as normal coins.
