Will the same anti-cheat be there for Project L?
Riot Games’ lead developers announced in their latest video titled “Season 2024 Look Ahead: Champions, Modes, Arcane & More” that League of Legends will be getting a kernel-level anti-cheat – Riot’s own proprietary system known as Vanguard. It will supposedly be able to reliably detect cheaters and bots, and even stop the matches after they’ve been started.
Season 2024 Look Ahead: Champions, Modes, Arcane & More | Dev Video - League of Legends The main reason for the implementation of Vanguard is twofold – firstly, the community has long complained about lots of bots in the non-ranked modes of the game, and secondly, Riot was a target of a security breach last year, which exacerbated the concerns of the developers.
This kernel-level anti-cheat has been used in Valorant, and the results show that it has successfully thwarted any major scale cheating or botting scene.
It’s interesting whether or not the upcoming Project L will also feature the Vanguard anti-cheat or if some other solutions will suffice.
