With the insane levels of popularity that Street Fighter 6 has, it has reached a new milestone shattering previous registration records for Evo
Street Fighter 6 is undoubted going to be the biggest game at the Evolution Championship 2023 event, but what many weren't sure of is how big.
Since its release, Street Fighter 6 has been blazing a trail for fighting games recording frankly ridiculous numbers on Twitch, YouTube and other platforms and even the just concluded CEO 2023 tournament saw over 80,000 people watching the Street Fighter 6 tournament across all platforms.
The game's popularity is going to once more feature heavily at this year's Evo with the announcement that registration for SF6 for Evo has shattered previous records.
This is significant as the previous record of registered fighters stands at 5107 players for Street Fighter V in its first year. This means, that the current number of registrations is at least 5108. However, with how popular the game is right now, it is safe to say that there will be well over 5000 entrants and we could even see as many as 7000 people entering.
While many have speculated that this is simply due to the huge cash prize Capcom is pouring into the game this year ($2,000,000), it is quite possible there are this many entrants simply because of how good the game is. The huge prize pool is certainly a factor, but the overall goodwill with which the game has been received is another factor to consider.
This certainly means some sleepless nights for bracket runners.
Evo 2023 will take place between the 4th and 6th of August 2023 in Las Vegas, United States.
