Jim Ryan is stepping down as president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the gaming division of Sony that oversees PlayStation. This is according to a press release from SIE. Ryan has been in the role since 2018 but has worked at Sony for nearly 30 years, holding various leadership positions.
Ryan said living in Europe while working for a North America-based company has become difficult. He expressed gratitude for being able to work on PlayStation products that have reached millions globally. Ryan will remain with the company until March 2024 to aid the transition.
Starting in April 2024, Hiroki Totoki, the president, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation, will take over as interim CEO of SIE. Totoki will start sooner as chairman of SIE in October 2023 to help PlayStation prepare for Ryan's departure. The press release indicates the leadership change is amicable, with Ryan crediting SIE President Kenichiro Yoshida for his support.
