NVIDIA Presents New Tech at CES 2024
Glimpse into the possible future of video games.

CES is in full force right now, which means a lot of new tech news. While fighting games are typically not on the forefront of technology, all of these innovations tend to cascade down on us. Ten years ago it would be nice to see a fighting game with a borderless window option, and now we have Tekken 8 with like 10 different upscaling options.

A lot of Nvidia's talk this time around was focused on AI, the generative kind specifically. To show the sheer power of this technology, they showcased a sort of game demo where two NPCs dynamically generate and iterate on one of the dullest conversations you could imagine, while trying to pass off as quirky and self-aware. Not only that, but they even show how you yourself can spout robotic lines to participate in a totally human interaction.

It's easy to imagine developers using this tech to fill out some of the open world games with more ambient chatter from NPCs without having to do the pesky work of writing interesting dialogue or having real voice actors bring those lines to life.

Shifting close to reality, Nvidia introduced a Super line of RTX 40 series cards. As expected, the main draw here is overwhelming performance, granting you every possible frame in video games and allowing much faster rendering for videos and 3D modelling. These cards will be available starting January 17. Alongside this, they announced a new line of RTX 40 series laptops on all major platforms.

Wrapping up the presentation, Nvidia showed off a pretty ambitious project that seeks to expand the robot AI thanks to generative AI models.
