Nobody Expected to Love Ingrid This Much —The SF6 Community Has Spoken
A character with a complicated history and low expectations has become one of the most anticipated Season 3 additions after her trailer dropped

Ingrid is the next character to be released for Street Fighter 6 and after her trailer, it is clear that the FGC absolutely loves her, but that wasn't always a given.

There Was Some Skepticism About Ingrid

When Ingrid was initially announced along with Alex, C. Viper, and Sagat in June 2025, there was some familiarity with the other three characters. Ingrid was a different story. She was supposed to make her debut in the cancelled 3D fighting game, Capcom Fighting All-Stars. She would eventually come out in Capcom Fighting Evolution in 2004 before also making an appearance in a PSP port for Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX. She wasn't popular then and so when she was revealed as a season 3 character for SF6, there was some pause, skepticism was not hard to find in the community, and expectations were measured at best.

This trailer marks her first full debut in a mainline Street Fighter game and with her abilities, she is comfortably the most powerful entity in the game lorewise. It is fair to say the trailer changed a lot of minds.

Fans Love Ingrid

The release of the trailer was already exciting enough, but something more heartwarming is the reaction that has greeted her upcoming release. Content creators, players and fans in general are incredibly excited for the character. Her playstyle points to her being a zoner with some nifty tools to play her game. Pro player and streamer, Nephew, said in his reaction video that she is the character that has gotten him the most excited to try out since Mai Shiranui in season 2, and that is worth taking seriously, given that Nephew would go on to use Mai as a pocket character in several tournaments. Evo 2024 winner, Punk, was also very excited when he did his reaction video, stating that he felt she has a lot of tools that could come in handy in a fight. Other content creators such as Brian_F and Diaphone also expressed delight at the character.

Japan Also Loves Ingrid

Ingrid also seems to have gotten a fair bit of attention in Japan, the country where Street Fighter 6 is the most popular. Several players reacted to her, like Ryusei of SCARZ who cheekily posted that he thinks switching to her from JP, who he currently uses, will pose no problem as they are basically the same character. GO1, a multi-game champion, also posted about how interesting he thinks Ingrid is, while Nyanpi, a female pro player, said she can't wait to get her hands on Ingrid and play her, while also hoping she isn't too difficult to pick up.

What to Expect From Ingrid

Going by her trailer, she will most likely be a complex character, but it's easy to envision a character specialist truly bringing the best out of her. In terms of the tier list, based on what we've seen, it'll be fascinating to see if she ends up as a top tier. She doesn't have a clear reversal option on defence, so that will count against her, but she has powerful zoning tools while also being able to fight up close if necessary, and with the ability to power up both her level 1 and 2 supers, it's easy to see how she can be a top character.

Ingrid arrives as the most powerful entity in Street Fighter lore stepping into a mainline game for the very first time. She will be released on the 28th of May 2026, and going by the reaction so far, the community will be ready and waiting.
