Have you ever ran an online tournament? Tried to play in one? It can actually be fairly clean and simple if you only have to worry about a few players and don't plan on broadcasting it.
Things get exponentially more difficult the more players you have, and at some point, trying to run the whole thing smoothly can be a bit of a pain.
However, new tool made by enpiece might be a literal game changer for both players and tournament organizers.
It's called NEST, and rather than one simple tool, it's basically a full blueprint for smooth online tournaments. You can see more details on the GitHub page. The key features are described as follow:
- Quickly create Discord events for start.gg events
- Setup automatic event reminders 24-hrs ahead of your events
- Check-ins flow that automatically assigns Discord role as people check-in
- Report scores on start.gg from Discord
- Instantly check which registered participants have not yet checked in
- Server-wide organizer role gating for all management commands
Right now it's still in beta and has been largely tested on Melty Blood and Under Night, but in theory this should work for a wide range of games and tournaments. Not to mention this can only go up from here, making the future possibilities for online competitive scene quite exciting.
