New Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Trailer Shines a Spotlight on Johnny Cage

For the IGN Fan Fest 2026, New Line Cinema shared an exclusive Mortal Kombat II trailer that gives us a better look at the movie's version of Johnny Cage, as well as the more overarching direction of the movie.

Visually, it still appears that the movie is aiming for a more serious and grounded cinematic tone, but in terms of costume and set design, it appears that they moved a little closer to embracing the distinctly video-gamey roots.

There's a lot more color, and we see more abstract stages that became a staple of early Mortal Kombat games. Naturally, having Johnny Cage as your protagonist should also help to make the whole thing feel a bit more lighthearted.

The old Paul W. S. Anderson arguably became the fan favorites for this exact reason. While they also attempted to present a more coherent story based on the games, the visuals and tone truly captured the experience of playing the games.
