New Fan-Made Indie Fighter Pits Capcom Against SEGA
Leave it to the fans to execute on a killer idea that should've existed decades ago!

Until a certain point, it feels like crossover fighting games were all the rage. Capcom vs. SNK (and vice versa), Street Fighter X Tekken, Marvel vs. Capcom, Tatsunoko vs Capcom... now that I think about it, Capcom sure has a lot of enemies.

Either way, perhaps their conduct improved a bit too much, because nobody has fought Capcom in quite a while, and most crossovers ended up getting reduced to guest appearances. Like Geese in Tekken 7 or Terry in Street Fighter 6.

Thankfully, it seems like the idea of making franchises from different companies clash against each other is still alive and well among the fans. The new project from madxruler does exactly this by setting up a fight between two giants, SEGA and Capcom.

SEGA vs Capcom: The Next Generation is built on the Ikemen GO engine, which is specifically suitable for anyone trying to make a fighting game that support a lot of carry over resources from MUGEN.

There will be a full trailer in January, but for now it already seems like an incredibly high effort project, even recruiting some VAs to provide new lines for the classic characters.

As for gameplay, we have to wait and see to really know, but on the surface, SEGA vs Capcom appears to be a 1v1 anime style fighter with a heavy focus on robust combos. However, the VS games have historically included some tag, assist, or at least team battle mechanics, so it wouldn't be a surprise if there's a lot more to this game.
