New Cross-FGC ELO System From Upset.gg Sparks Early Discussion
This could become something truly remarkable

Upset.gg has rolled out a new cross-FGC ranking system, introducing an ELO-based leaderboard for multiple fighting games on its fantasy esports platform.

The feature launched with rankings for:

  • Smash Ultimate

  • Smash Melee

  • Rivals of Aether II

  • Guilty Gear Strive

  • Street Fighter 6

  • Tekken 8

  • 2XKO

According to the developer, the rankings only factor in major events, with each game having its own criteria for what counts as a “major.” Locals are intentionally excluded to avoid skewed data, regional imbalance, and, as he put it, to prevent players from entering locals while worrying about their ELO score instead of, well, playing the game.

This system is not an official ranking by any publisher or TO, but it fills a long-standing gap, especially for titles like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8, which have never had a unified or reliable rating system. The developer also confirmed that the rankings will update daily.

Early reactions have been largely positive, but a few wrinkles have immediately come to light. Taking Street Fighter 6 as an example:

  • LeShar currently holds the #1 ELO at 2682,

  • followed by Blaz,

  • then Punk in third.

But there’s context baked into the numbers. Punk has logged over 2,000 competitive matches with an 87% win rate, compared to LeShar’s 131 matches and 83% win rate. Meanwhile, MenaRD, who has two Capcom Cups and three EVO titles in the last two years, sits at 5th, behind Booce_Lee.

These aren’t fatal flaws, just growing pains that should smooth out as the system ingests more data. And even with its early quirks, the Upset.gg ELO project is a promising step toward giving the competitive FGC something it has always lacked: a consistent, data-driven ranking system across multiple games.
