Following a rocky start in 2021, Netflix's gaming gambit might just payoff in 2024

Started back in 2021, Netflix Games was a new branch of the streaming service giant that looked to give the company an in on one of the largest entertainment industries, gaming. In the past two years, the company has not only grown its catalog by buying up older titles, the GTA Trilogy being one of its greatest acquisitions, but also funding internal titles, such as Oxenfree II: Lost Signals.

A report by TechCrunch's Sarah Perez, indicates the gaming branch of Netflix has grown year over year and now amounts to over 80 million downloads worldwide.

One of the latest steps Netflix is looking to do is enable cloud gaming for all devices. Something that could open up its library to more powerful titles. However, the giant streaming service is also recovering from a wave of layoffs last year, and customer satisfaction is decreasing due to rising subscription prices. Whether Netflix Games will prove a sustainable and, more importantly, a profitable element of its financial equation remains to be seen.

As far as 2024 is concerned, the company is looking forward to many releases, including some based on Netflix's most successful series, such as Squid Game.
