MK1's Netcode is Terrible in Africa, Pros Complain
In a world where online gaming has gotten better, it seems like Africa is still an afterthought

Mortal Kombat 1 has come out to great fanfare so far. The story mode is amazing, the characters have been absolutely amazing so, and the various game modes are sure to keep fans coming back again and again. From the looks of it, even the netcode is decent and everyone is having fun— except Africans.

Africa has long been a neglected region when it comes to game development and the online experience and while Street Fighter 6's incredible netcode has been great in the African continent, Mortal Kombat 1, not so much.

In a social media post made by Justin 'Mr 5000' Banda, a Zambian pro who is well known around the world, he complained that the game was unable to create a match that was supposed to be held in his home. He also uploaded a video with the problem and tagged WB Support.

The post was also replied by Street Fighter's JabhiM, a South African who also had the same issues. According to Jabhi, Street Fighter 6 has been working a treat all around Africa, but the same isn't true for MK1. This is made more infuriating by the fact that Mortal Kombat X and 11 worked perfectly in the continent.

According to Justin, such a problem in 2023 is not great and doesn't reflect well on the game developers.

WB Support did respond saying that they are actively working on the issue and it is hoped that a resolution is found soon.

For a game that has seen such universal acclaim, it would be a shame if it doesn't work as intended in Africa where Mortal Kombat has a large fanbase of pro players and casuals who love the game and support it.
