The game is experiencing a renaissance

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 makes its grand return to the Evo main stage in 2025 after over a decade out.

The highly popular game, which has spawned several legends of the FGC, was announced as one of the main stage games for this year's Evo to a lot of fanfare.

It has now been announced by the official Evo account on social media that MvC2 has attained a record number of attendees. Unfortunately, the actual number of participants is still unknown, but that will be revealed soon.

MvC2 last featured on the Evo main stage in 2010, which is about 15 years ago, and its highest number of participants before this was in 2022 when it was reported to have had over 200 signups. That would mean that this year's Evo should see a higher number than that.

Many reasons can be forwarded for this bump in popularity. For one, tag fighters are all the rage now with the announcements of Marvel Tokon, Invincible, and even the much-maligned 2XKO. Also, the fact that the game is on the mainstage again, is another reason why this large number of registrers have come forward.

With its current number of participants, MvC2 is the 6th most registered game at Evo 2025, even above the likes of Mortal Kombat 1 and Under Night In-Birth II Sys: Celes.

Evo 2025 registration has just about closed and the main action will commence from the 1st to the 3rd of August 2025.
