Marvel Tokon Is Introducing Changes Based on Previous Closed Beta
The game's director personally chimed in to comment on player feedback.

Last December, Marvel Tokon had a closed beta, although only on PS5, and despite all the hype around the game (as well as very favorable comparisons to 2XKO), it actually left people feeling a bit mixed on the actual gameplay.

For starters, Tokon is by default somewhat unconventional for a tag/vs fighter. Despite having 4v4 teams, all characters share one health bar, which means that as soon as someone gets KO'd, the round is over. It removes a surprising amount of resource management and nuance that you typically expect in a fighting game, and has a rippling effect on how the tag mechanic itself is being used.

However, one of the more common complaints about the Closed Beta was down to how sluggish the game felt. Many situations locked you out of tagging on both defense and offense, undermining perhaps the most core component of the game. And even when you did tag, it was far from being snappy.

If you agreed with that criticism, the latest trailer for Unbreakable X-Men team actually included a secret message of sorts. As the game director points out, they tried to include as many system changes as they could into this trailer, to give you a feel for how the game should play now.

There is still a caveat here though. While you should be able to use tags and assists more often in combos and block strings, it's going to cost you some meter. That might sound bad for tag fans, but depending on meter mechanics, it could end up being a nice middle ground between the non-stop intensity of tag fighters, and a more measured paced of more traditional fighting games.

Considering that Marvel Tokon overtly aims to be casual friendly, they clearly don't want to go too far in any direction. That said, if you're a fan of the sub-genre and feel like it's still not great, you gotta make sure to voice your feedback when the next open or closed beta test comes around.
