After releasing the character guide for Iron Man, the Marvel Tokon devs are following it up with a showcase for another iconic character – Doctor Doom.
Outside of being a fairly popular Marvel character in general, this mad villain has a special place in the FGC history thanks to his rich presence in classic Capcom games, including Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3.
Unlike some of the previous characters they did guides on, Doom seems less versatile, with a much bigger emphasis on zoning and area control.
One of his basic tools is an interesting take on something like Aegis Reflector. It's a moving shield that can absord projectiles or damage an enemy it hits, but instead of having different versions based on distance, you can spawn a version that either travels toward opponent, or toward you. You also can charge it up to create a version that travels further and deals an additional hit.
Aside from that, you have an array or projectiles. Doom has a fairly quick laser attack that can be angled to catch airborne opponents, and the EX version will achieve something similar while still covering the grounded approach. The satellite laser completes the space control arsenal. It places a mark on the ground that will stop either when it connects with opponent or travels a certain distance. The EX version will outright home in on the opponent, but there is seemingly a small window to evade instead of blocking.
Even though he's focused on these many projectiles, he does have a few moves that should prove strong upclose. One of them is the electric discharge in front of Doom, which is plus on block. The other tool is a very quick but short lunge that grabs and launches opponents, with EX version having an evasive teleport that can switch sides.
Speaking of movement, he is not gonna be lagging behind the rest of the cast in this department. His unique skill allows Doom to use a teleport dash, which holding up after a jump will give you brief air mobility. It's not comparable to Iron Man, but even just staying in the air for a bit longer can make a huge difference in a game like this.
