Manmade Horrors: Fruit Fly Brain was Subjected to Video Games
Fighting games? Maybe one day.

Recently, a joint project to completely map every neuron in a fruit fly's brain has been completed by researchers at Janelia, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge, and Google Research.

Naturally, it's a valuable step towards understanding how our world functions, and will likely serve as a stepping stone for further scientific research.

More importantly, it also means that people can take these scans to make the fly do whatever they want, even something as obscene as playing video games.

And of course, much like everything must run doom, everyone must also play it, so one of the earliest projects in this regard was teaching a fly to play Doom.

Many others immediately dipped this as well, trying to make the fly play various video games, through in some scenarios it's more so sending movement signals, rather than actually making the fly recognise what's happening and act accordingly. That's a much more complex process.

It only took a bit of time until someone put fly on Deadlock as well, but again, there's a bit caveat where it's not actually "training" try fly to play a video game, but rather using its brain scan as a sort convoluted interface for AI to play the game instead.

But at least is spawned a generational slander format, with people immediately replacing Deadlock and Graves with game and character of their choice.
