Magneto Character Guide for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
What if instead of magnetism he had the power to control purple?

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls got around to releasing two guides at nearly the same, with Magneto and Magik guides coming out just hours apart.

While Magik is in some ways pretty "new school," Magneto is pretty much as OG as it gets. Even though he came out a little over two decades after Marvel was founded, the character has been around for over 60 years at this point.

He's also one of the few Marvel villains to enjoy immense popularity and recognition without requiring a dedicated movie or anything of the sort. Even his design was so iconic that it barely changed since he was first introduced.

However, when it comes to fighting games, Magneto is somewhat infamous for being extremely mobile but also extremely challenging to play if you want to utilize his full potential. It's the sort of character that gets a lot of respect despite being powerful, because if someone does well, you know they practiced their ass off.

Hell, if you ever heard of the "characters as functions" argument, you should know that much of it comes down to people being mad about Magneto himself not being present in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. With many saying that even if someone plays similar, none can replace Magneto.

Does Marvel Tokon retain the character's identity in spite of being a whole different game from a different team? Shockingly, yes, they kinda did!

Obviously it had to be toned down to some extent, but ASW clearly knew what versus players would want out of Magneto, so his unique movement option is an 8-way air dash combined with the ability to fly. And it still looks fast enough to enable some potentially nasty outplays.

Outside of that, his kit is heavily centered on his unique magnetism system. Shooting out a meteor will leave some metal debris on the screen, and the same will happen after he performes some of his other specials. Certain attacks will also magnetise the opponent.

Both of these conditions (the number of debris clouds and magnetised status) will then enhance his other special moves, which are otherwise a fairly normal assortment of a DP, different fireballs, and a command grab.

It seems like he will end up being a fairly well-rounded and solid character with a high degree of depth.
