New job listing spotted for nextgen MK and Injustice titles

Following the discovery that AT&T is in the market to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the fate of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises has been unknown. Now thanks to a recent job posting, it looks like fans have nothing to fear for the time being.

The WB Games careers page has listed an opening for the position of Principal Software Engineer, Graphics at NetherRealm Studios. The job description reads will "work closely with the Lead Engineer and the rest of your peers to develop state-of-the-art graphics technology for the PS5 and XBOX Series X." They'll also "drive the next generation console graphics vision for the Mortal Kombat™ and Injustice™ franchises."

This revelation proves that NetherRealm Studios has plans to continue working on both franchises in the near future, but other than that, there's not much else to go on. The project is most likely in the early stage of development, which means we shouldn't expect any new title from the team at the launch of Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5.

Considering the success that is Mortal Kombat 11, the new game could take a while to arrive. The latest installment in the franchise recently launched the Aftermath expansion, which introduced three new characters and a slew of additional content. There's also the possibility of more DLC coming for the game, but this hasn't been confirmed yet.

Whatever the case, it would appear that the AT&T sale won't be separating Mortal Kombat and Injustice from NetherRealm Studios. So fans can rest easy, for now.
