As spotted by JeriTheOG on YouTube, Konami has finally secured full ownership of the Bloody Roar franchise as of this month.
As he explains, even though Konami assimilated the now defunct Hudson Soft, the last Bloody Roar game was still released under Hudson, with Konami only acting as the publisher.
It wasn't until 2020 that Konami actually filed to register the trademark, and it wasn't until a few days prior that this legally approved, granting them full ownership.
Worst case scenario is that this is simply Konami being prudent, and they have no plans to do anything with the license. However, now there is at least a chance of seeing some new release in the future.
Even though a whole new game seems a bit unlikely, Konami has been making efforts to revive a few of its older properties. In this light, there is some potential for modern ports or updated collections.
And after that, who knows. Even though fighting games are still in a shaky state, relying on very popular IPs or developers to secure budgets, there is still plenty of room for a new 3D fighter.
