Kitkat Ad At Street Fighter 6 EWC Makes Fun At FGC Pre-Evo Meme
In a show of understanding of the FGC, the new Kitkat ad brought humor to the tense world cup

Kitkat, one of the main sponsors of the Esports World Cup, did an ad with the Street Fighter players which featured top Japanese players; Kakeru, Itabashi Zangief and Ryukichi, and other players from other parts of the world including AngryBird, Phenom and MenaRD.

The ad showed the Japanese players hungry and hankering for food which the other players brought for them in a care package full of Kitkats. The Japanese players received it with joy, but it was later revealed, that the Japanese players already had a stash of food and snacks behind their couch and were simply pretending.

On the surface, it was simply a fun ad with awkward acting that only made it more fun.

However, it is the context that makes it even funnier.

Before Evo, the yen was reported to have lost ground against the dollar. This meant that the purchasing power of the Japanese traveling to America was weakened. As it happened around the tournament which saw a lot of Japanese representation, a well-meaning, but propably ill-advised person tweeted asking people to give Japanese snacks, or water bottles, or buy dinner since things are difficult for them.

The statement was met with a lot of lampooning and backlash with people stating that there were better ways to show kindness and that the Japanese players in America were in need of handouts.

Using this in the ad, we see that it is the international players gifting food to the Japanese and showing that they already had snacks showed the fact that they were probably just fine all along.

The ad was generally well received and got a lot of laughs. It is also certain that the Japanese players will have done okay for themselves with six of the top 8 being Japanese with the likes of Kawano making as much as $140,000 for his second place finish.
