Kakeru was beaten rather soundly in the Grand Final versus MenaRD, but people must exercise caution in considering that a failure on Kakeru's part as making the final of a 5000+ tournament is no mean feat whatsoever.
Not only that, but by virtue of being in the Losers' bracket, he had to play more matches to make it to the Grand Final, which he did in inspiring fashion.
With a record of 16 wins and 2 losses, Kakeru joined a list of players who have recorded the most wins in an Evo tournament. With this record, he is level with iDom who also won 16 matches before losing in Grand Finals to Kawano, and he is behind Tokido who had 17 wins on the path to finishing 4th in Evo 2018, and two behind Luffy who won an astonishing 17 matches on his way to winning Evo 2014.
The most wins in Evo history belongs to Nemo who won an incredible 19 games to take 4th spot at Evo 2015 in Ultra Street Fighter IV.
Kakeru lost to Ryukichi in the winners' quarter final of his pool. He would go on to defeat Tokido, Otani, Hikaru, Jr., Vxbao, Ryukichi in the runback, and Lexx, before falling to MenaRD.
With his position, he also gets an automatic qualification spot for the Esports World Cup which holds later this year in Saudi Arabia.
