J Gleez's Mortal Kombat 1 Quan Chi Character Guide
Learn how the ins and outs of this one of a kind sorcerer with the help of top NRS player J Gleez

Quan Chi returns to Mortal Kombat via Kombat Pack 1. The great outworld sorcerer has a wide range of zoning options, making him a tough nut to crack for opponents. Don't be fooled though, he is unquestionably not an easy or cheap character, staying far away, in a game like Mortal Kombat 1, can be a challenge unto itself. That is why here at DashFight, we've recruited the help of top player J Gleez to construct a pro guide to help you bring down your opponents from afar in style.

Quan Chi's Gameplay Basics

Best Buttons & Strings

  • D3: It is a slow poke, but its safe on block and on +14F on hit.
  • D4: Great range, although not safe on block, its range means you are more or less safe.
  • S3: Anti-air and a launcher, good button for starting combos.
  • S4: It is easy to whiff with it, but it is special cancelable, so it is worth sometimes trying if you are able to frame-trap opponents.
  • S1,2,2: Good push even on block and on hit; it creates a lot of great space.
  • S1,3: A good launcher. You can even whiff the first hit on purpose to throw people off.
  • F2,1: Fantastic range, and once again, on hit, it pushes opponents really far. But dangerous if blocked.
  • S2,1: Both string endings, with 4,4 or 3, are good, providing a simpler mixup with an overhead and a low.
  • B3,4,2: A good launcher that keeps the opponent close in front.
  • F4,4: Good combo ender to make sure the opponent goes full screen.

Specials

  • BF1: Standard projectile can be used in the air as well.
  • DB1: Overhead projectiles, you can adjust where they land.
  • BDF2: It locks opponents down; when amplified, you can make it so they have to jump out, at which point you can S3.
  • DB3: Buffs your projectiles, not just more damage but also converts them into mids. You can then also amplify them for even more properties, like launchers.
  • BF4: Good as a wake-up armored move at the cost of meter. Though not 100% reliable.
