Injustice 3 Rumors Shut Down by Ed Boon, But Not Entirely

The last 48 hours have seen the internet alight with rumors of Injustice 3 being in production, with reports even going as far as to reveal two of the cast members as Supergirl and Batwoman.

It has long since been believed that Injustice 3 will be the next game from NetherRealm Studios following the end of support for Mortal Kombat 1, which was announced last year.

Following all this, Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and the Injustice games, more or less shut down the rumor. He did this in a tweet where he said that the rumors floating around are 100% false.

But it does seem that he didn’t fully deny that there’s something in the works. In an exchange on X, Boon first called the rumors circulating about Insomniac Games collaborating with NRS false. Another user responded by listing three rumors, including playtests for Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13, and Mortal Kombat 9, to which Boon also replied that it was all false.

The user then pressed on, asking if it was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe 2, to which Boon responded, “Appreciate the interest & enthusiasm. But just because a game isn’t currently being tested externally doesn’t necessarily mean the game isn’t in development.”

If there was nothing going on, the expectation is that his response would have been more emphatic, but this shows that perhaps there is development on the game going on that isn’t at the playtest stage yet.

There’s definitely something going on, and with New York Comic Con on the horizon, taking place from October 8 to 11, there is a chance that something gets announced then.
