Slightly less than last year.

There is no news about the fact that esports are huge in China. But how much money does it generate? The Esports Advocate provides some details of the annual report of the Chinese government’s China Audio-Visual and Digital Publishing Association (CADPA).

According to that, the Chinese esports industry in 2023 generated 1.31% less revenue than the previous year. The total sum is ¥26.3B RMB ($3.7B USD). It is worth noting that the revenue from esports games is not included there. More than 80% of that revenue is generated by esports streaming.

CADPA states that there are 488 million esports players and users. There are 188 esports organisations registered in China, with almost a third of them located in Shanghai.

While these numbers are not easily verifiable, this data is still valuable, as it can show the current state of the Chinese esports scene. As global esports market correction keeps happening, the esports winter in China seems to be relatively mild.
