Gato Joins The Roster of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
They somehow made him look even cooler.

Recently SNK posted a short trailer showing off Gato's latest appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

The iconic bajiquan practitioner is looker better than he ever did, at least in 3D. His new design goes for a more desheveled and slightly aged up appearance, as opposed to his rather prestine presentation in prior games. It definitely makes sense for a man who no longer uses his sight. Perhaps to go along with that theming, the major color of his outfit went from yellow, to black with some yellow accents.

The animations in particular are look great so far. It took some time, but it's obvious that SNK animators are far more comfortable with working in 3D now, and utilizing a whole different suite of tools, techniques, and effects. In particular, there are some delicious smears in this trailer that do a great job to sell you on his smooth, linear, and extremely impactful strikes.

We also get some insight into his motivation for the newest Fatal Fury entry. As a reminder, Gato's story in the original game ended with him about to finish Kain, before his father swoops and strikes Gato in the eyes, temporarily blinding him. Even after he could see again, Gato only saw that as a weakness, so now he chooses to fight with his eyes closed. With a new KoF tournament on the horizon, he is given an opportunity for revenge.
