Who could've known that a day would come when fighting games are something that will be taught on the campus of a prestigious university? Not me, man.
But this is the new reality, "The Art of Fighting Games" course at Berkeley University offers to teach absolute beginners about the beauty of fighting games and their complex cultural impact on Japanese culture and media.
Not only that, but they also have a goal of teaching complete beginners to become roughly mid-level fighting game players. So the attendees will not only learn about the culture, history, impact, and community of fighting games, but they will also pick up the fundamentals.
This is something that many FGC content creators have been trying to accomplish with their streams and videos, and it's cool to see something like that become an actual course at the university. Let's hope it does well enough to help expand the community and bring fighting games ever closer to mainstream.
