Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Wins Best Fighting Game At Game Awards
It was the only logical choice

SNK’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was the winner at the Game Awards for best fighting game.

It was in competition with some other titles including 2XKO, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage.

Fatal Fury was released earlier in 2025 and was preceded with some intense marketing. Since its release, while it took a while, it has slowly started picking up as it has added more characters, a patch, better tools in training mode and so much more.

While CotW was a worthy winner, many have wondered about the suitability of this category especially with the other nominees in the category. For context, the category included a game that isn’t even fully out yet (2XKO), a collection of old games (Capcom and MK), and a repackaged old game that’s over a decade old (Virtua Fighter). This is also as there are other much smaller fighting games that have actually come out this year and haven’t received as much attention.

Fatal Fury is going strong and recently added Mr. Big to the cast and have announced a second season coming in January 2026.
