Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves' Steam Charts Shows Grim Reality
Why doesn't it have more players?

Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves was released globally on the 24th of April 2025 to rave reviews from various outlets. Many praised the incredible gameplay and deep mechanics. It was also great that old beloved characters returned to the game.

This is not to say that the game was without controversy, especially with the addition of guest characters Cristiano Ronaldo and Salvatore Ganacci. While players have warmed to the latter, there is still a lot of discontent regarding the former. But, with incredible marketing and what was more or less a very successful launch, many assumed that the game was set for a successful future. On top of that, the massive funding is going towards the competitive scene with a reported $2.5m prize pool, and it seems that CotW is going to be an untouchable game.

However, with the game now out, the Steam Charts which show the player count for the game and can be a good indicator of a game's health, make for some grim reading. As it stands, CotW has had an all-time peak player count of a little over 4500 players.

This is interesting and perhaps a little worrying considering the game's predecessor, King Of Fighters XV, sits at almost double CotW's all-time peak player count. It also cannot hold a candle to Street Fighter 6's numbers or even for Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1.

It is difficult to speculate on the reason for this, and perhaps one can only say that maybe it hasn't been a hit with the casual audience.

It is hoped that the numbers improve, but the current reality seems pretty grim.
