A classic revived to come to the stage of Evo
With the Capcom Fighting Collection 1 and 2, there has been a strong resurgence of classic titles getting their time in the sun at major tournaments. Capcom vs SNK 2 is no different, as it found its way into one of Evo's stages with one of the oldest and experienced Top 8 of the competition.
Top 8 Upper Side
The action started with Silentscope vs ChoiBoy on the upper side of the bracket. Choi managed to take the first set of the series, but after swapping Morrigan for his third, Silentscope was able to overcome the challenge and send Choi down to the lower bracket. Bas and Señor Payaso were the next pair up to fight, and thanks in part to a few slip-ups by Payaso, Bas was the eventual winner of the series and set to meet Silentscope in the winner's finals.
Bas would be the one to take the lead in the upper finals on the electrifying back of Blanka, which set the tempo for the rest of the series, as Bas would go on to send SilentScope to the lower bracket.
Top 8 Lower Side
Dr.B and UltraKyH were the first matchup of the lower side, which was the Doctor continuing his lower bracket run with a 2-0 win. Bukthooth would also be taken out of the top 8 on the opening round of the lower bracket at the hands of EricTurbo.
Señor Payaso would put an end to Dr.B's hopes and dreams, however, as he took the series with a 2-1 score. What followed was a hard-fought battle between the two Choi from the top 8. Eric Turbo versus ChoiBoy was a thrilling series that ended in a 1-1 tie, with the break going to Choi as he made a comeback after nearly losing to Sakura and then defeating Eric Turbo's Bison in an incredible match.
Payaso and ChoiBoy meet in the lower semifinals to determine who would go on to fight SilentScope. Sr. Payaso took the first set of the series before ChoiBoy rolled over and took the next two matches to bring forth the rematch for a chance at the grand finals.
Finals
And then there were only three. Sr. Payaso, Silentscope, and waiting for his opponent, Bas. Choi would be the one to draw the first score of the lower finals, enacting partial revenge on SilentScope. However, it would not be without a response, and SilentScope's Morrigan was able to even the series 1-1. Just as SilentScope was about to put the final nail in the coffin, a clutch-up by Choi would result in him taking the lower finals 2-1 and earning a spot in the grand finals.
Bas took the first game of the series, forcing out a character change out of Choi, but Bas' Yamazaki was completely on another level, and even as Choi was mounting a comeback, it was Bas' win in the end, earning an Evo Winning title.
