Evo France Set to Become Europe’s Largest Fighting Game Tournament
Can't say anyone is surprised

Evo France kicks off this weekend, and it is set to make history as the largest fighting game tournament ever held in Europe.

The event marks the debut of Evo France, which was announced last year as one of two new Evo tournaments joining the global rotation. The other, Evo Singapore, is scheduled to debut in 2026. The expansion has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Some have expressed concerns that increasing the number of Evo events could dilute the prestige traditionally associated with the tournament series. Others have praised the move as a way to make the world’s most iconic fighting game event more accessible to a wider and more diverse audience.

Nearly 3,500 competitors have registered for Evo France, a record-breaking figure for a European tournament. For comparison, Ultimate Fighting Arena, widely regarded as one of Europe’s premier events, drew fewer than 2,000 participants in 2023, which was itself considered a landmark year due to the release of Street Fighter 6.

The tournament will take place in Nice and will serve as a qualifying event for several major competitive circuits, including Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, and more.

There was some concern that the event might face significant disruptions due to a planned air traffic controller strike, but that strike was called off earlier this week. With travel disruptions avoided, competitors and fans from around the world can freely make their way to France for the tournament.

Evo France runs from October 10 to 12, 2025.
