Evo Announces Exhibition Match Between Tyler1 and Ludwig in SF6
Doesn't get more grassroots than inviting internet celebrities to play fighting games in front thousands of fighting game players.

Evo seems to be doing better than ever under the new Saudi Arabia ownership. What started out as a rinky-dink loser party where sweaty nerds battled each other over who gets to eat the leftover pizza, is now a legitimate even with real internet celebrities.

On X, the everything app, the company announced that they will be hosting an exhibition match between two people who are famous on Twitch and have technically played fighting games before, with loltyler1 briefly grinding out Street Fighter 6, while Ludwig is known for playing and organizing Smash Bros. events.

The two will battle it out in Las Vegas, a showdown of Classic vs Modern. All in front of an audience where nearly every person might have more time in the game than both of them combined.

This pathetic genre that isn't worth damn, and these games that struggle to sell more than 10 copies (most of which are just developers buying copies for their friends and family) finally gets a chance to attract the attention of people who couldn't care less about fighting games.

Needless to say, this is a massive W for the community, but especially for Capcom. As many comments point out, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for internet funnymen to pull Street Fighter 6 out of the gutter and into the loving homes of wider audience.

It's scary to imagine what kind of schmucks could've taken this spot in a different timeline. Imagine something as dull as a SF2 FT10 between Daigo and Alex Valle, or maybe a Marvel set between Kane Blueriver and Justin Wong. There is really no shortage of dreadful possibilities that will hopefully not occur under the new ownership.
It's about time somebody ripped out the grass and replaced it with marble.
